A Few Good Things – Vol. 9

Sonic Racing Commercial

Growing up, I loved video games. I loved my Atari 2600 and my NES, but the console that made me lose my mind was the Sega Genesis. Sega’s marketing was so good. They went straight at Nintendo, and it had an edge that felt fresh and exciting. As much as I love Nintendo, I was enamored with Sonic and the Genesis. We all know Nintendo won that battle, but I appreciate that Sega is still around and making games.

Well, Sega has a new Sonic Racing game coming out, and they decided to dust off an old marketing tactic and go after Mario Kart. It feels a bit subdued vs. the 90s ads, but I love it. Well played Sega… you made me want to buy a Sonic Racing game.

My New TV

This past weekend, I decided to invest in a new TV for our bedroom. I just couldn’t deal with another night of sitting in my chair with my iPad and listening to reality TV. I convinced myself it was an early birthday present and I got a great deal on it. Of course, my wife can’t stop looking at me like I’m nuts for sticking a 55 inch TV in our small bedroom. It’s great, it looks like a movie theater in there!

I did have to bleed a bit for the TV. See, I went to BJs to pick up a shelf for my closet. My plan was to get up early, grab the shelf, stop at McDonalds on the way home, and enjoy the day watching football. Of course, I browsed the TVs like I always do, and I convinced myself to pick up the 43 inch LG. But then I realized the 55 inch was only $10 more, so I moved the shelf to the bottom of the cart and stuck the massive TV on top.

On the way through the parking lot, the shelf slide off the cart and when I went to grab it, it sliced the top of my hand. I didn’t seem so bad at the time, but once I started trying to cram the 55 inch TV into my sedan, I started to see blood all over the box, my car seats, and eventually my shirt.

The box wouldn’t fit, so I had to resort to taking the TV out, putting it in the backseat, and folding the box up in my trunk. Needless to say, there is bloody styrofoam everywhere in my car right now.

When I got home, I walked in the door carrying a TV that wasn’t in a box, I had blood all over my hand, and my shirt. The look on my face was priceless. She was like, “What the hell happened at BJs? You just went to get a shelf and you come back carrying a TV that’s not in a box and covered in blood!” Ahh, good times.

Shrinking

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been watching Shrinking on AppleTV. It’s tremendous. My fandom of Harrison Ford has plummeted the past twenty years. He doesn’t really seem to put much effort into his roles anymore, but in Shrinking he really brings it at times. It’s a wonderful show and by far my favorite show on AppleTV and one of the best shows I’ve watched this year. It’s led me into reading a book by the psychologist the show was inspired by, but more on that in a larger post in the near future.

Khaleesi

This picture of Khaleesi in her Cattasaurus makes me happy.
