A Few Good ThingsWell... we are half-way through Halloween 2K26 this year, and I have quite a few more Halloween/spooky season themed posts to come. My original plan had a daily post for all of October, but I've decided to save some of these for next year to offer a little more balance to the blog. And to be honest... after the initial work on writing up these posts, it really hasn't gotten me into the holiday spirit as much as I hoped. In fact, I'm more interested in watching Star Trek and superhero stuff right now, and not horror.
Onto this edition of A Few Good Things
Ted
I watched the first Ted movie back in 2012, but I honestly couldn't tell you a thing about it. When I saw they made a TV show, I had no interest in it. I didn't even watch Ted 2. However, I found myself working on something one day and so I turned the first episode on for a few minutes and less than a week later I'd binged it all. It was hilarious and the second season was better than the first. It's a shame there won't be anymore seasons due to the cost of animating Ted, because damn this is by far the funniest thing on TV/streaming.
Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi
For the majority of my adult life, my diet beverage of a choice was Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi. I loved the stuff. Sadly, around six years ago, it stopped being canned in my area as Pepsi shifted their focus on Pepsi Zero. I can get Wild Cherry Pepsi Zero, but not Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi.
The other night, I was wondering if Pepsi was even still producing the stuff and I saw that I could order a twelve-pack through Walmart, for a little over $15. It was more than I'd normally spend, but I just wanted to taste that sweet, sweet Wild Cherry flavor one last time.
The twelve pack arrived via FedEx two days later, and I checked the expiration date to make sure it was fresh. It was and well.. it was tasty. Did it live up to those expectations in my head? No. It was just a nice taste that after that first can, I stopped slowly appreciating like it was a hundred year old scotch. I'm hoping this let me get this craving out of my system for good, because honestly... I prefer Coke Zero over this.
The Pump App
I have a lifetime membership to Arnold Schwarznegger's The Pump app. I've seen it grow and evolved over the past few years, and the app just keeps getting better and better. I'm on my longest consecutive run with using it ever. I recently finished my latest program and started the Dumbbell Grit program. Its well paced and while I still have a way to go losing weight around my midsection, I have grown to arguably the strongest I've been my adult life.
Leviathan Wakes
I'm finally getting around to reading Leviathan Wakes and wow... just wow. More on this once I finish.
Absolute Green Arrow
Absolute Green Arrow is a dark, horror-tinged reinvention of Green Arrow built around a murder mystery. In this version of the Absolute Universe, Oliver Queen is already dead, and someone using green arrows has begun brutally killing corrupt billionaires. Dinah Lance—Black Canary, reimagined as an executive protection specialist—is tasked with finding the killer and starts investigating a group of skilled archers, all of whom have connections to Oliver.
I read through the first five issues the other night, and I dug this. It isn't perfect, and the world needs more fleshing out, but I appreciate the unique horror element. As mentioned in the comic, the Green Arrow is less Errol Flynn and more Michael Myers.
Nightmare Weekend
Nightmare Weekend is coming up and I'm working on my plans to attend. I'm looking forward to meeting the Chiodo Brothers and Robert Kurtzman. Finances pending... I would also like to meet Danielle Harris and The Soska Sisters, but we'll have to see how things work out. There are way too many video games I want to play this fall and things are not exactly cheap at the moment.
